FREE Mini Mushroom Crochet Pattern

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

Here's the written pattern for my first youtube video! I wanted my first crochet tutorial on youtube to be beginner-friendly, so I came up with this no-sew (well technically you do have to "sew" on the white dots on the mushroom cap, but it's nothing super crazy!) mini mushroom.

If you want to try and make a bigger mushroom using this pattern, try changing the yarn and hook sizes! I used some jumbo-sized yarn by sweet snuggles and chenille home to create this big boy.

Here's a size comparison:

Honestly, try experimenting with all different kinds of yarn! though I gotta warn you, you might end up with a mushroom army.

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in colors: red, cream, and white

  • 2.75 mm hook

  • Black embroidery thread

  • Pink eyeshadow

  • 2 mm safety eyes

  • Fabric glue

  • Scissors

  • Yarn and sewing needles

  • Stuffing

  • Stitch marker (I use paperclips!)

  • Sewing pins

Terms/Notes:

  • SC = single crochet

  • CH = chain

  • INC = increase

  • DEC = decrease

  • DC = double crochet

  • SLST = slip stitch

  • ST = stitch

  • RND(S) = round(s)

  • MR = magic ring

  • PBO = Partial Bobble

*We’ll be working in spiral rounds. DO NOT slip stitch and chain 1 after every round.

Head/Body:

Start with red yarn:

1) sc 6 in MR (6)

2) (sc, inc) x 3 (9)

3) sc, inc, (sc 2, inc) x 2, sc (12)

4) (sc, inc) x 6 (18)

5) sc, inc, (sc 2, inc) x 5, sc (24)

6) sc 24 (24)

7) (sc 3, inc) x 6 (30)

8-9) sc 30 (30)

10) (sc, dec) x 10 (20)

Change to cream yarn

11) FLO: (sc 3, inc) x 5 (25)

12) sc 25 (25)

13) sc 7, pbo, sc 8, pbo, sc 8 (25)

14) sc 7, dec, sc 7, dec, sc 7 (23)

15) sc 23 (23)

Stuff mushroom cap

16) sc 7, pbo, sc 7, pbo, sc 7 (23)

17) sc, (dec x 11) (12)

Stuff body

18) dec x 6 (6)

FO, cut long enough yarn tail to sew remaining hole closed.

How to do a partial bobble stitch (pbo):

Assembly:

  1. Take some white yarn and a yarn needle and embroider some white dots on the mushroom cap.

  2. Place 2 mm safety eyes between rnds 12 and 13 with 4 sts apart.

  3. Take black embroidery thread and a needle and sew a mouth in between the eyes.

  4. Use some pink eye shadow to create blush on the mushroom.

Your mushroom is now done!

Adorable! Easy - took me maybe 3-4 hours and this is only my 3rd crochet project ever! The first two projects I made were wobbles and this is using the easy peasy yarn they sell (pebble for the body). Very cute - this will be a birthday present for my dear friend. Thank you for the wonderful pattern!

This is embarrassing, but where does the fabric glue come in?
